The Job Role as Digital Collaboration Engineer:
As a Digital Collaboration Engineer, you will help ensure the continuity, quality, security, and scalability of ISS’s Microsoft 365 services. You will combine day-to-day platform engineering with project delivery, automation, governance, and tenant-to-tenant migrations arising from acquisitions. The role addresses a growing capacity gap created by organisational changes, expanding demand from business units, an increasing operational backlog, and a portfolio of new initiatives across security, collaboration, automation, governance, and user enablement. Working within the Digital Workplace team and in close partnership with security, compliance, service desk, local IT, vendors, and acquired organisations, you will reduce operational and project-delivery risk, strengthen platform resilience, and translate business requirements into sustainable Microsoft 365 engineering outcomes while maintaining business continuity and compliance.
What you’ll do:
- Own day-to-day Microsoft 365 service operations and ensure platform stability, availability, and performance.
- Resolve complex Microsoft 365 issues escalated by the service desk or local IT teams.
- Administer core Microsoft 365 workloads and implement configuration changes aligned with security, compliance, and governance standards.
- Lead assigned Microsoft 365 projects through planning, build, testing, deployment, hypercare and operational handover.
- Build and maintain PowerShell-, Microsoft Graph-, and API-based automation for provisioning, policy enforcement, reporting, and operational workflows.
- Create and maintain architecture documentation, runbooks, standard operating procedures, migration guides, and support knowledge articles.
- Monitor service health, incident trends, and key platform metrics, and implement preventive improvements.
- Partner with security and compliance stakeholders to implement controls, support audit readiness, and deliver remediation actions.
- Plan and execute tenant-to-tenant Microsoft 365 migrations for acquired companies, including discovery, dependency mapping, readiness assessment, cutover design, migration, and post-migration stabilisation.
- Assess identity, email, collaboration data, endpoint management, licensing, and compliance dependencies and constraints.
- Coordinate migration workstreams with internal teams, vendors, and acquired entities, managing technical dependencies and business-continuity risks.
- Contribute to the Microsoft 365 roadmap by translating business requirements into actionable engineering deliverables.
Key qualifications:
Must have:
- Several years of hands-on experience administering and engineering Microsoft 365 in a large and complex enterprise environment.
- Strong knowledge of core Microsoft 365 workloads, including Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and associated security, compliance, and governance capabilities.
- Proven experience troubleshooting complex Microsoft 365 incidents, performing root cause analysis, and implementing sustainable solutions in production environments.
- Experience planning and delivering Microsoft 365 configuration changes through controlled testing, deployment, hypercare, and operational handover processes.
- Strong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell and Microsoft Graph API, with the ability to develop, maintain, and optimize automation solutions for Microsoft 365 administration, governance, and reporting.
- Solid understanding of Microsoft 365 security and compliance services, including Conditional Access, Identity Governance, Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Information Protection, Retention, and Microsoft Purview capabilities.
- Experience managing Microsoft 365 user licensing, including license assignment, optimization, governance, and troubleshooting licensing-related issues.
- Ability to create and maintain high-quality technical documentation, operational runbooks, standard operating procedures, architecture documentation, and implementation plans.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 governance, operational best practices, and service lifecycle management.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with architects, security teams, business stakeholders, and external vendors in a global enterprise environment.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 Copilot, including configuration, administration, governance, adoption, and troubleshooting.
- English proficiency, both written and spoken.
Nice to have:
- Experience with Microsoft 365 Copilot Agents, including configuration, deployment, permissions management, and integration with Microsoft 365 services.
- Experience with enterprise-scale Microsoft 365 migrations, including tenant-to-tenant, mergers and acquisitions, or divestiture projects.
- Experience with third-party Microsoft 365 migration and administration tools such as ShareGate.
Personal skills:
- Structured problem-solving and sound judgement in complex, high-risk technical situations.
- Clear communication and confident collaboration with technical teams, business stakeholders, vendors, and acquired organisations.
- Strong ownership, prioritisation, and attention to detail across operations and project delivery.
- A proactive, improvement-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently and as part of a global team.
