Main purpose of the position/Key expectations:
The primary purpose of this position is to collaborate closely with Database Operations Engineers to drive the migration and modernization of databases from on-premises to Azure. A key aspect of the role will involve leading the shift from IaaS to PaaS Azure databases. This role will also be to strengthen the use of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for provisioning, managing, and deploying databases, thereby streamlining processes and supporting CI/CD initiatives. In addition to database migrations, this position will be heavily involved in optimizing storage solutions, including Blob Storage, Azure Files, and other cloud-based storage services.
What you’ll do:
- Collaborate with Database Operations Engineers to plan and execute the migration and modernization of databases from on-premises to Azure.
- Lead the transition of database platforms from IaaS to PaaS Azure services to improve reliability and cost efficiency.
- Design and implement storage optimization strategies, including Blob Storage, Azure Files, and archiving solutions.
- Drive automation of database operations and strengthen Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices to support standardized deployments and CI/CD pipelines.
- Act as the Product Owner for databases and Storage, serving as the primary point of contact and subject-matter expert for all database and Storage related initiatives, decisions, and queries.
Who you’ll work with:
- You will work closely with the Cloud Hosting Engineering Manager, Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE) Lead, Cloud Hosting Engineers, Database Operations Engineers, CloudOps Engineers, CloudOps Team Lead, and Security Architect.
Key qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with database platforms (IaaS and PaaS), storage solutions such as Blob Storage and Azure Files, and data archiving strategies.
- Proven expertise in migrating and modernizing on-premises workloads to Azure, optimizing for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
- Strong hands-on skills in automating database and cloud operations using PowerShell, and other automation tools to streamline routine tasks.
- Skilled in designing and managing CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps or GitHub to support automated deployments, database changes, and continuous delivery.
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or similar tools for consistent provisioning and management of cloud and database resources.
