Bartender Food Service 

 

Position Summary:  

The Food Service Bartender mixes and serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to Club Members at the bar and dining room. Works as a team player, assumes a pleasant and helpful demeanor toward guests and co-workers to ensure guest satisfaction.  Exemplifies Stanford Faculty Club core values of honesty, integrity, respect, commitment and quality.  

Position Characteristics: 

A successful Food Service Bartender possesses the desire to contribute to the overall success of the Stanford Faculty Club.  They will be prompt when completing daily/weekly tasks.  They must be well versed in professional communication with the aptitude to exercise discretion. They need to provide excellent customer service with the utmost professional integrity. They are courteous, enthusiastic, and show initiative with coworkers and guests. 

 

Essential Job Functions: *including but not limited to* 

  • Must be able to communicate in English with customers and have professional verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Must be able to communicate with others to convey information effectively and in a professional manner.  
  • Understands their schedule will be based on operation needs and will therefore fluctuate from day to day and week to week.  
  • Knowledge of Point of Sales System (POS) and credit card machine. 
  • Maintains proper and adequate set-up of the bar on a daily basis. This includes requisitioning and stocking of all beer, wine, spirits, paper products, straws and stirrers and condiments. 
  • Must be able to make alcoholic drinks from a standard gin & tonic to martinis, etc. 
  • Greets guests in a courteous and friendly manner, promotes and documents orders for drinks.  Mixes, garnishes and presents drinks using standard ingredient recipes and practicing prudent portion control. 
  • Abide by all State, Federal and Corporate requirements pertaining to serving alcoholic beverages. 
  • Able to read BEOs (Banquet Event Orders) and help execute the setup of all food and beverage items. 
  • Can answer questions regarding product details, preparation descriptions and food and beverage menu ingredients. 
  • Requires the ability to be flexible and adapt to change. 
  • Must have basic knowledge of food and beverage preparation and service of various alcoholic beverages. 
  • Commitment to the service values and ethics of Stanford Faculty Club.  
  • Is comfortable accepting constructive criticism and has the ability to remain calm under high stress situations. 
  • Is familiar with all food and beverage menu items and accurately charges customers for purchases. 
  • Workplace Safety, Food Safety guidelines, HACCP, MSDS, proper handling of chemicals guidelines, ServSafe practices policies, and SOPs are followed daily. 
    • Must follow all safety rules and actively prevent accidents. 
    • Maintains a safe work environment at all times and complies with all safety and security policies. 
  • Must be able to correctly and safely use standard service equipment, steam tables, pairing knives and chafing dishes.  
  • Must be organized, detail oriented, reliable, responsible, dependable, and fulfilling all obligations.  
    • Ensures public areas are clean and well stocked.  
    • Provides and maintains a clean, sanitary, comfortable and tidy environment for guests and Club visitors. 
  • Clean and sanitize work areas and equipment and must follow ISS/Guckenheimer, and government regulatory rules and procedures. 
  • Knowledge of principles and best practices for providing outstanding customer service.  This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for service, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. 

 

Additional Responsibilities and Job Requirements: 

  • Attends monthly safety and team meetings.  
  • Monitors and reports necessary repairs, replacements, damaged, or missing items. 
  • Helps maintain server stations and dining room organization and cleanliness to provide a safe environment for all employees and guest.  
  • Responds to guest and manager queries and calls for support when need with issues such as spills and broken glass. 
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned; may include tasks outside of job description. 

 

Preferred Education and/or Experience: 

  • You must be at least 21 years old (per state law) 
  • 2-years waiter experience or similar and 2-years full bar bartending experience. 
  • Required certification: ServSafe Certificate or Food Handlers Card.  This position requires a high school diploma or GED.  

Great attitude and highly motivated.

Establish and uphold positive and productive working relationships with guests and staff. Work efficiently, both independently and as a part of a team. Be organized, exercise sound judgement, perform detailed tasks; understand, follow, and receive clear verbal and written direction. 

 

Physical Demands: 

This position routinely requires standing, walking, holding/carrying, reaching, twisting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, kneeling/squatting, sitting, climbing stairs/ladders. Must be able to lift a minimum of 25lbs and stand on feet for up to 8 hours per day, excluding breaks.  Must arrive to work properly dressed according to dress code (Non-slip shoes, black slacks and clean dress shirt) and be able to work under pressure with time deadlines during peak periods. 

Having a flexible work schedule. 

Weekend, evening, and holiday availability required.
